BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- Bowling Green baseball notched 21 runs on 21 hits over the span of nine innings in their 21-5 win over the Ohio Bobcats Friday night. In the ninth inning alone, the Falcons more than replicated their performance with 12 runs on ten hits in the frame. Jon Berti and Mark Galvin paced the Falcons with four hits apiece, though Berti set a career high with six RBI on the day.
Bowling Green scored nine times over the first five innings in their win over Ohio. A pair of walks in the first courtesy of Ohio starter Bryce Butt allowed the Falcons the opportunity to score twice with two out to open the game. Galvin and Berti both knocked in runs on RBI singles to take a 2-0 lead.
After a run scored in the second on a Logan Meisler triple, the Falcons carved out four more runs. Derek Spencer walked on four pitches followed by Galvin's single through the right side, Berti struck again with a demonstrative three-run home run to left center field to increase the lead to six. A Meisler sacrifice fly gave the Falcons a 7-0 lead after three innings.
After the Falcons put a single run up in the fourth and fifth innings, they were held scoreless until the ninth but more than made up for it in their final at-bat. Bowling Green sent eight batters to the plate and scored five times before submitting an out. Meisler recorded his fourth and fifth RBIs of the night on an RBI double to left center field and Clay Duncan hit his second home run of the season with a three-RBI shot over the left field fence. Before all was said and done, the Falcons scored 12 times and finished with a 21-3 lead going into the bottom of the ninth inning.
Falcon starting pitcher, Brennan Smith, finished with one of his best outing of the season lasting 6.1 innings and striking out nine Bobcat hitters. He allowed three runs on the day, only one of them earned. His nine strike outs serves as a season-high for Smith.
Bowling Green earned the 21-5 victory after Charles Wooten and Dan Parsons finished out the last 2.2 of relief allowing only two runs and striking out four hitters. The Brown and Orange improve to 16-18-1 overall and take sole possession of second place in the Mid-American Conference standings (8-7) stepping one game ahead of the Bobcats (12-23, 6-7).
