LAST TIME OUT
The Falcons swept the Akron Zips last weekend, the third conference sweep in their last four weekends. Akron and BGSU swapped large scoring innings in game one as Akron posted a six-spot in the fourth inning to put the Falcons in a hole early, but the Brown and Orange rallied for a five-run seventh inning to take the lead for good in a 13-9 win. After Saturday's game was postponed due to poor weather, the team suited up for a Mother's Day doubleheader on Sunday (5/9). Another five-run seventh inning separated the two teams in the Falcons 10-3 victory, led by Charles Wooten scoreless relief stint, lasting five innings. In the day-capper the Zips held it close and took a 4-4 tie into the eighth inning, but the Falcons scored twice in the home half of the eighth when the bottom of the order came through with three straight two-out hits and a pair of runs in their 6-4 win.
THE SERIES - FALCONS vs. GOLDEN FLASHES
Kent State has dominated the all-time series against the Falcons. BGSU is only 60-102 since their first meeting in 1936. KSU has swept BGSU in three of the last four series since 2006. Bowling Green hasn't taken a series versus Kent State since 2004 when the Brown and Orange took two-of-three in Kent, Ohio. Three Centennial Cup points are on the line as both teams celebrate their 100th years as a university. The current Cup standings favor the Flashes, 10.5 to 6.5.

FALCONS TURNING INTO CLEANUP SERVICE
The term “sweep” has been in many discussions and releases over the last four weeks of the Falcons' season. Bowling Green has swept three of their last four seasons and almost completed the fourth sweep against Miami having taken two of three games from the RedHawks from April 30 to May 2. In the last 12 conference games the Falcons have an 11-1 record and have outscored the competition 129-74. As a team they have batted 96 points better than their opponents (.378 - .282) and recorded nearly twice as many RBI (120 - 69). From the mound the Falcons are allowing 3.50 fewer runs and allowed 49 fewer hits.
BLANTON EARNS ACADEMIC RECOGNITION... AGAIN
After finishing the spring semester with a 3.32 grade point average and combined his scholastic performance with impressive numbers on the field, T.J. Blanton has been named to the ESPN The Magazine All-District Academic Second Team for District 4. The Sandusky, Ohio native is majoring in Health Science, will finish his courses and graduate this summer before beginning his doctorate degree program in Physical Therapy at the University of Toledo. He is one of three MAC players to be named to the award and receives the honor for the second time in his career. He earned the same award last season, as well.
RELIEVERS SHINE IN AKRON SERIES
All three Bowling Green wins were pulled down by the Falcon bullpen against the University of Akron during their series last week. Charles Wooten, Nick Bruns and Patrick O'Brien earned “W”s in the sweep of the Zips. Those three plus the contributions of Ross Gerdeman and Patrick Martin did not allow a run in 11.2 innings pitched and only six hits in that time. Wooten threw five scoreless innings with five strikeouts and only three runners allowed on base on May 9 in the first game of a doubleheader. The Falcon bullpen combined for 11 strikeouts and only four walks over the weekend and had a flawless 0.00 ERA.

SPENCER SIGNIFICANT PART OF FALCON TURNAROUND
After floundering between a .250 and .270 batting average for nearly the entire first half of the season, Derek Spencer has been a colossal part of the Falcon turnaround since April 11. Since that point, Spencer has improved his average 45 points to a season-high .310 after going 28-for-77 (.364) during that time. He has hit eight of his ten home runs and five additional extra-base hits over that span. In his last 18 games, the team has posted a 16-2 record while he has recorded multiple hits in ten of those contests, including six of the last seven. He has only been held hitless in twice in that time.
