The Falcons and Chippewas combined for ten hits on the day and both team pitched perfect defensive efforts with no errors committed. Central Michigan had a few more scoring chances than its opposition, leaving eight of nine men on base with Bowling Green leaving just four men on the base paths.
Of the Falcons' five hits, Jon Berti (Troy, Mich.) and Frank Berry (Virginia Beach, Va.) each had a pair of hits with freshman Alex Davison (Grand Ledge, Mich.) notching the final BGSU base knock.
The combination of Matt Malewitz (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Ben Singer (Midland, Mich.) pitched eight innings of scoreless baseball before the game-deciding frame. Malewitz went five innings and allowed only two hits but walking five hitters in a 92-pitch outing. Singer (0-4) entered in the sixth inning and allowed only one hit and struck out three before the decisive moment.
In the ninth, Singer walked the leadoff hitter, Jordan Dean, who then swiped his twelfth base of the year to put himself in scoring position. Bowling Green went to the pen and called upon Ross Gerdeman (Fort Jennings, Ohio) to try to remove the threat, but Nate Theunissen put a 1-2 offering deep into centerfield for two bags, driving home the game-winning run in the process.
Bryce Morrow pitched 8.2 innings for Central Michigan, striking out seven Falcons in the no-decision.
Catcher Matt Vannett (Bowling Green, Ohio) threw out two Chippewas attempting to steal second bases against him before he was relieved by T.J. Losby.
