Falcons Close Regular Season At Buffalo
May 16, 2012 | Baseball
The Bowling Green State University baseball team will close out the regular season with a three-game series at Buffalo this weekend. The Falcons come in with a record of 19-31 overall, and 8-16 in the MAC. The Bulls will enter with a mark of 16-33, and 8-15 in the Conference. The series will begin on Thursday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 3 pm. Friday's and Saturday's contest will begin at 1 pm.
The Falcons And The MAC Tournament
The Falcons will enter the weekend on the outside looking in for a spot in the upcoming Mid-American Conference Baseball Tournament, but they are not out of it yet. With three games to play, the Falcons sit in tenth place in the MAC. However, with a sweep of the Bulls this weekend, the Falcons would give themselves a chance, needing either Akron (at Kent State) or Miami (at Ohio) to get swept, as well. With both the Falcons sweeping, and one of those two teams getting swept, the Falcons would still qualify for the MAC Tournament.
Previewing The Falcons
Bowling Green enters the final weekend of the regular season with a team batting average of .285 on the season. Andrew Kubuski leads the team with a batting average of .368. He has posted 20 multi-hit games, which leads the team. Although seven Falcons have scored 25+ runs on the season, Kubuski leads the team with 28 runs scored. Jeremy Shay leads the team with five home runs on the season, as he has provided a large part of the power in the middle of the Falcon lineup. Shay also leads the team with 13 doubles. T.J. Losby leads the team in 2012 with 35 RBI. Kubuski is the only other Falcon with over 20 RBI, as he has knocked in 29 runs during the year.

The last time the team finished with an ERA of below 5.00 was in 2006, when the staff pitched to an earned-run average of 4.79. That 2006 team also finished below .500, at 26-27 overall, 11-16 in the MAC. Two Falcon pitchers lead the team with four wins, as Matt Malewitz and Jason Link have each racked up four victories on the year. Nick Bruns is close behind with three wins, while also leading the team with a 2.70 ERA. Ben Singer comes into the weekend having amassed 26 appearances during 2012. The school-record is 27 appearances for a season, most recently held by Ross Gerdeman in 2010.
