Bowling Green, Ohio -- For a week, we asked our fans to vote for their favorite student-athletes of the past 20 years. Throughout the month of September, we will reveal one selection at a time each weekday over a five-week stretch. Today, we highlight your No. 8 choice for the top student-athlete of the past 20 years, football quarterback Omar Jacobs!
8. Omar Jacobs (2003 - 2005)

From the moment Omar Jacobs took the field as the Falcons' starting quarterback, his excellence followed, and met the attention of the next level.

Jacobs' three years at BGSU were filled with excitement and awe around the arm talent he possessed. He played sparingly during his freshman season in 2003, but finished the year playing in four games, while completing 19-of-28 passes for 345 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions. He added 89 yards and two touchdowns on the ground as well.

It is Jacobs' sophomore year that led the Falcons' offense to be one of the most prolific and efficient in the country. He threw for an astounding 4,002 yards to go with 41 touchdowns (best in the country) and only four interceptions, while adding 300 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. Jacobs set the record for the best touchdown-to-interception ratio in NCAA Division I-A history (10.25:1). Additionally, he led the nation in points responsible for per game (22.5), and set the MAC record in touchdowns responsible for in a season with 45. He earned CNNSI.com honorable mention All-American, First Team All-MAC, and MAC Offensive Player of the Year. He was also the MVP of the 2004 GMAC Bowl.

Jacobs began his junior season with sights on the Heisman Trophy, but sustained an injury to his non-throwing shoulder that reduced his productivity. Despite the hindrance, Jacobs still threw for an impressive 2,591 yards and 25 touchdowns, with only seven interceptions. He also added 62 yards and one touchdown on the ground. He was a two-time MAC East Offensive Player of the Week and a Davey O'Brien Award semifinalist.

Jacobs would declare for the NFL Draft after his junior season, where he was selected in the fifth round by the Pittsburgh Steelers (164th overall). He spent parts of 2006 and 2007 with the Steelers, Philadelphia Eagles, and Kansas City Chiefs.
