Bowling Green, Ohio -- For a week, we asked our fans to vote for their favorite student-athletes of the past 20 years. Throughout the month of September, we will reveal one selection at a time each weekday over a five-week stretch. Today, we highlight your No. 9 choice for the top student-athlete of the past 20 years, hockey player Ryan Carpenter!
9. Ryan Carpenter (2011 - 2014)

A native of Oviedo, Fla., Ryan Carpenter was a model of consistency and dependability on the ice for the Falcons.

Carpenter's rookie campaign in 2011-12 included being named CCHA Rookie of the Week twice during the season. He was one of only four Falcons to play all 44 games, leading the team in assists (19) and points (30), while ranking second on the team in goals (11) and game-winning goals (three). He also finished the season with a plus-2 on-ice rating.

Carpenter was named to the All-CCHA Second Team and CCHA Scholar-Athlete Team in 2012-13, while also being honored with the Dr. Ron Zwierlein Leadership Award. Additionally, he was named the 2012-13 Jim Sears Award as the team's most valuable player, playing in all 41 of BGSU's contests. He finished first on the team in goals (18) and points (33), while ranking second in shooting percentage (.158), and third in assists (15). He scored two goals and added three assists in the Falcons' first round playoff series with Lake Superior.

Carpenter only played in 16 games as a junior in 2013-14, battling a number of injuries. He still managed eight goals and eight assists on the season, for a total of 16 points and ranking first on the team with 1.07 points per game. He was also honored with the Jack Gregory Scholar Athlete Award and named to the 2013-14 WCHA Scholar-Athlete Team.
A six-year NHL veteran, Carpenter has played in 201 career regular season games, as well as 26 playoff contests. He played in the Stanley Cup finals as a member of the Vegas Golden Knights in 2017-18.
