THIS WEEK IN FALCON HOCKEY ...
... the Falcons return to the friendly confines of the BGSU Ice Arena (Bowling Green, Ohio) for their first home action in three weeks. Bowling Green will host the Ohio State Buckeyes (6-8-1, 3-6-1-1 CCHA) for two games this weekend, Dec. 10-11, 2010. Both games are set for 7:05 p.m. opening faceoffs.
LAST TIME OUT ...
... the Falcons battled the Lake Superior State Lakers in two very similar type games with replica results on both nights. Friday and Saturday night, Bowling Green and Lake Superior skated to 1-1 ties through 65:00 of play followed by two Laker shootout victories by counts of 2-1 each night. Each goal scored by the Falcons was on the power play, scored by James McIntosh (Holland Landing, Ontario) on Friday night and Chad Sumsion (Woodstock, Ontario) on Saturday. Each night the Falcons took a 1-0 lead into the third period of the game but allowed the Lakers to tie it up before regulation time ended. BGSU acquired two points in the CCHA standings with the shootout losses while the Lakers skated away with four points on the weekend. David Solway (Green Bay, Wisc.) and Marc Rodriguez (Aurora, Ill.) were in on both goal scores with assists attached to each. Bowling Green goaltenders Nick Eno (Howell, Mich.) and Andrew Hammond (Surrey, British Columbia) stopped 26 and 29 shots, respectively. With his first save of the game on Friday night, Eno achieved 1,500 saves over his career.

THE STARTING FIVE - Five Facts On BGSU Hockey
(1) This weekend, two first-year head coaches will face off when Chris Bergeron and Mark Osieki face off to begin their respective chapters of this in-state rivalry.
(2) The all-time series between Bowling Green and Ohio State favors the Falcons, 89-66-5, but the Buckeyes have won the last seven matchups between the two teams. The Falcons have lost their last four home games versus the Scarlet and Gray.
(3) After the first month of the season the Falcons had a power play success rate of six percent (3-for-50). Over their last eight games, BGSU is 7-for-32 (.219) and has improved their season power-play mark to .122.
(4) If you are looking for the most prominent goal scorers while at home look no further than Jordan Samuels-Thomas and Brett Mohler who lead the Falcons with three goals, this season. Four Falcons have two goals a piece while playing inside the BGSU Ice Arena.
(5) Last year, the Falcons played the Buckeyes inside Value City Arena and skated to 7-2 and 4-3 losses.
PLENTY OF POWER PLAY
Take out the Miami series where the Falcons struggled offensively the entire weekend and the power play unit has turned around since the start of the season. Removing the Miami series, over their last six games they have scored an average of one PPG per game. In their last eight games overall (reinsert the Miami series) they are 7-for-32 on the PP (.219), a leap ahead of their .122 seasonal average. In the tournament held over the Thanksgiving holiday, the Falcons went 3-for-9 (.333) on the PP -- and held their opponents scoreless on six power play attempts.
PK GETTIN' STREAKY FOR THE BETTER
Bowling Green has had a couple of rough patches in its PK unit this season but recently has patched together the holes to provide some quality minutes while a man down. The Falcons have kept their opponents' power play units scoreless over the last four games, covering 11 power play attempts. Their longest streak of consecutive opponent power plays killed this season is 16 straight (Oct. 9-16) against the likes of Michigan and Clarkson.
DOUBLE BARREL DUELS
The Falcons had been the only team remaining in the CCHA to not tie and be forced into a shootout scenario this season until their trip to Lake Superior. Unfortunately, the numbers BGSU accumulated in their six shootouts last season did not carry over into the weekend. Both Nick Eno and Andrew Hammond lost their respective shootouts with the Lakers, each allowing two successful attempts to the opposition while the Falcons only scored once in each duel. In 2009-10, BG had six games decided by a shoot out and won five of those. Eno was 3-1 while Hammond posted a 2-0 record in shootouts, last season.
GOT SHOTS?
The mantra as of late for the Falcon offense has been “get shots on net”. Simple enough, but after putting a season-low nine shots on goal against Miami on Nov. 20 in a 5-1 loss that message has grown stronger than ever. BGSU has now outshot their opponent in four straight games and three times by at least seven shots per game. Friday night, the Falcons set a new season-high with 37 shots on goal in their tie with LSSU. The Falcons are 3-1-2 overall when outshooting their opponent this season.
ENO STRINGS STRONG STARTS TOGETHER
After three consecutive starts where Nick Eno (Sr., Howell, Mich.) allowed four goals to the competition, he has created a newfound a hot streak over the last three games he has played in. As the “Friday Starter” for the Falcons, he has pulled in wins in three of his last five games and a 3-1-1 overall record in that time. In his last three wins, he has allowed only four goals (1 PPG) and made 75 saves. In his previous three games against Alaska, Clarkson and in his first meeting with Alabama-Huntsville (Oct. 22) he allowed six power-play goals and made 69 combined saves in 81 chances. In his only loss over the last four games, he allowed four goals on 27 shots against nationally-ranked Miami in a 4-3 loss on Nov. 19. Most recently, Eno saved 26-of-27 shots against at Lake Superior in 65:00 of play before losing in a shootout, 2-1.
ENO ACHIEVES 1,500 CAREER SAVES
Senior Nick Eno (Howell, Mich.) has been fairly busy between the pipes this season with his 222 saves on the year contributing to his career save total. With his first save of Friday's game at Lake Superior, he reached the 1,500 milestone. He needs 433 more saves to crack into the BGSU all-time top-ten list.
FRESHMEN GETTING SOME CCH-ATTENTION
With a large sum of its players being first-year players, their contributions to the team's success are both crucial and receiving attention around the league. Two Falcon freshmen have found themselves on the top freshmen scorers list in Camden Wojtala (Trenton, Mich.) and Brett Mohler (Yorba Linda, Calif.). Both are in a tie for seventh in total scoring (by points) with Wojtala's 3-7-10 line and Mohler's line of 5-5-10.
Mohler is in a tie for fifth-most goals scored by a freshman within the CCHA, overall this season (5). In conference competition, his four goals is tied for fourth-most among freshman. He is tied with teammate Chad Sumsion for fifth in conference PPG (2). During just CCHA games, Wojtala has a 2-5-7 line ranking him in a tie for eighth in conference scoring among freshmen.
Sumsion has also stepped into a tie for fourth in the conference with three power-play goals, overall.
WE ARE, WE ARE ... THE YOUTH OF THE FALCON NATION
Friday night's (Nov. 26) game against Alabama-Huntsville encapsulated the scoring patterns of the Falcons thus far this season. The youth of the Falcon roster have led the way this year and last night was no different. All but one of the 12 points and four of the Falcons' five goals were scored by the freshman and sophomore classes. Saturday's game vs. RPI was no different as one of their two goals and all three assists were recorded by the freshman or sophomore classes. On the season, 26-of-38 (50 percent) goals have been score by a member of one of those two classes.
