Falcons Over The Weekend
The Bowling Green State University ice hockey team tied Western Michigan 3-3 Friday night, overcoming a two-goal deficit with under five minutes to play in the third period. Junior Bobby Shea recorded two goals and an assist on the evening, while junior goaltender Andrew Hammond stopped 20-of-23 shots in the contest.
The Falcons dropped a tough game to Western Michigan Saturday night, falling to the Broncos 6-1. Senior James McIntosh scored the lone goal for the Falcons, while junior goaltender Andrew Hammond stopped 20-of-26 shots in the loss.
The six goals allowed by the Falcons is the most given up so far this season, and marks the first time Bowling Green has allowed six goals in a game since last year's playoff opening loss (6-3) to Northern Michigan (Mar. 4, 2011).
The First Time
The Falcons face off against Bemidji State for the first time in program history this weekend, marking the Falcons' second new opponent this season (Canisius Nov. 11-12). The Beavers compete in the WCHA, the conference Bowling Green is slated to join in 2013. Bemidji State is 2-2 this season against the CCHA, splitting a pair of road sets with Miami and Lake Superior earlier this year. The last time Bowling Green played a WCHA opponent was during the 2009-10 campaign, when the Falcons dropped a 3-1 decision to Minnesota at the Dodge Holiday Classic (1/2/10).
Shea's Big Night
Junior Bobby Shea's three-point (2 G, 1A) performance Friday night set a career high for goals and points in a game, and marks the first multi-goal game by a Bowling Green player this year. The last Bowling Green player to score two goals in a game was Brett Mohler last season against Miami (Nov. 19, 2010). Shea's three-point night (2G, 1A) ties the Bowling Green season high, matching Cam Wojtala (Oct. 8 vs. Connecticut) and Ryan Carpenter (Nov. 19 vs. Miami).
Welcome To The Assist Column
Sophomore Ryan Viselli's assist on the game-tying goal Friday night marked his first of the season, giving him four points on the year (3G, 1A). Junior Ryan Peltoma also recorded an assist on the game- tying goal, giving him is first point of the season. The point marks Peltoma's first since Feb. 19 of last season, when he recorded a goal in a 3-2 loss to Northern Michigan.

The Falcons are dead even with their win total from last season, securing six victories so far this year. Bowling Green has one less loss (11) compared to last year, but has registered one more tie (3).
In conference play, the Falcons have only secured one win this season compared to two last year. Both squads in 2010 and 2011 secured two conference ties at this point of the season.
The 2011 Falcons played one more game at home compared to last season, but both teams secured three home wins. This year's team has one more win on the road (3) compared to last year, while the 2010 team collected both of their ties on the road.
Introducing James McIntosh
Senior James McIntosh scored the lone goal for the Falcons Saturday night, marking his first point of the season. McIntosh's goal snaps a personal 30-game goalless streak, dating back to Jan. 29, 2011 against Lake Superior (2-1 Win). McIntosh has registered eight goals and eleven assists in 108 career games played. McIntosh leads all current Falcons in career games played.
Another Career High
Sophomore Andrew Wallace tallied two assists in Friday night's game, marking his first assists of the season. Wallace's two-point night also marked a career high. Wallace extended his point streak with another assist Saturday night, giving him four points (1 G, 3 A) on the year. Wallace scored a total of four points all last year.
More Notes At The Half
The Falcons two leading point scorers from last season are no longer on the team. Jordan Samuels-Thomas (14) transferred while David Solway (12) graduated, leaving Marc Rodriguez and Brett Mohler as the team's top returning point getters. Rodriguez has not played this season due to injury, while Mohler has been sidelined the last seven games due to injury.
Freshman Ryan Carpenter's point total (14) matches Samuels-Thomas' team-leading point total from last season. The 2010 team had five players with double-digit points at this point last season, while this year's squad only has two (Carpenter and Cam Wojtala).
Goalie Notes At The Half
Junior goaltender Andrew Hammond split time with Nick Eno last season, playing in only 10 games last year. Hammond has started every game for the Falcons this season, collecting six wins compared to two wins at this point last year. Hammond's six wins match his season total from last season.
Hammond's goals-against-average (2.79) is lower than last season (3.08); while his current save percentage (.899) is also lower than last season (.901).
Upper Class Surge
The Falcons last series against Western Michigan marked a flow of points from upper classmen. Juniors Bobby Shea and Ryan Peltoma along with senior James McIntosh all secured points, improving the upper-classmen point total by five points. The surge pushed the upper-classmen total point percentage up four points, jumping from 12 to 16 percent. The Freshmen and sophomores hold a strong lead, counting for 84 percent of the team's points so far this season.
Looking At Bemidji State
Junior Jordan George leads the Beavers in goals, registering 11 on the season. George is tied with senior defenseman Brad Hunt for the team lead in points (17), while Hunt leads the team with 13 assists on the season. Senior Shea Walters ranks second on the Beavers with eight goals on the season.
Senior goaltender Dan Bakala has seen the majority of the action for Bemidji, starting in 13 games this season. Bakala has a solid 2.87 goals-against-average, with a .905 save percentage and one shutout. Bakala's overall record sits at 4-6-1. Freshman goaltender Andrew Walsh has also seen some solid minutes, posting a 1.98 goals-against-average with a .932 save percentage and two shutouts. Walsh has played in eight games, and sports a record of 5-2-1.
The Beavers are ranked fourth in the WCHA on the power play, converting on 22.2 percent of their chances. Bemidji has done well on the penalty kill as well, ranking first in the WCHA with an 86 percent kill rate.
