Scouting The Rockets
Toledo enters the weekend series with an overall record of 12-18, coming off a midweek win over Dayton. The Rockets are coached by Cory Mee who is in his 10th season at the helm of the Midnight Blue and Gold. As a team, Toledo is batting .290, which is best in the Mid-American Conference. Despite their offensive prowess thus far, the Rockets have struggled on the mound at times, compiling an ERA of 5.01 which ranks in the bottom half of the league. Tyler Grogg and Matt Delewski lead Toledo offensively, posting batting averages of .412 and .374, respectively. Ryan Wilkinson leads Toledo on the mound, with a 2.87 ERA.
The Series
Bowling Green and Toledo have met 200 times on the baseball field prior to Friday's contest, with the Falcons leading the all-time series 115-85. Despite being swept in last season's series, head coach Danny Schmitz has a career record of 43-26 against Toledo.
The Week In Review
Bowling Green began the weekend with a win over Eastern Michigan, getting seven strong innings out of Cody Apthorpe in the 10-4 victory. The rest of the weekend, the defense would fail the Falcons, committing seven errors in their final two losses of the weekend series. On Tuesday, the Orange and Brown bounced back with a win over Ball State on the road.
Offense Heating Up
The offense struggled at the beginning of the season to put runs on the board, but has been much better of late. Since MAC play began, Bowling Green has a .283 batting average in league games. In league games only, Jeremy Shay (Jr., Garden City, Mich.) ranks in the top ten in home runs, RBI, and total bases.
Bruns In The Bullpen
Since moving to the bullpen at the beginning of last season, Nick Bruns (Sr., Saint Henry, Ohio) has been dominant. Ranking second in school history with 13 career saves, Bruns has recorded 11 of those in the past season and a half. He has also notched five wins in that span. In the last 80 games that Bowling Green has played, Bruns has appeared in 39 of them. In those 61.2 innings, he has struck out 51 opponents while allowing just 18 earned runs. Bruns has appeared in 75 career games, which is sixth all-time in school history.
Lancaster Leads The Way
Patrick Lancaster (Jr., Woodhaven, Mich.) has been a constant at the top of the box score all season long, currently leading the team with a batting average of .303. Lancaster has started 26-of-27 games, leading the team in at-bats (109), hits (33), and stolen bases (3). He has had 11 multi-hit games this season, leading the Falcons in that category, as well.

Mike Frank (R-Jr., Maumee, Ohio), another starting pitcher for the Orange and Brown, currently sits 8th in the MAC with 38 strikeouts. Nick Bruns is tied for 3rd with four saves.
Bien There, Done That
A second-team all-MAC performer last season, Brian Bien (So., Cincinnati, Ohio) has started to show glimpses of returning to his form of 2012. Leading the team with 12 hits in the nine conference games so far, Bien is currently riding a 10-game hitting streak to lead the Falcons.
Driving The Bus
Over the past two seasons, Andrew Kubuski (Jr., Elyria, Ohio) has been a constant in Danny Schmitz's lineup in left field. This season, Kubuski sits in the top three on the team in games played, at-bats, hits, and runs. Kubuski has started 73 games over the past season and a half. Kubuski has reached base in 16 consecutive games entering the weekend, spanning back to March 6 at Florida Gulf Coast.
Mr. E McKenney
A season after losing nine games as a starting pitcher, Ethan McKenney (Jr., Defiance, Ohio) has found his comfort zone in the bullpen. McKenney has appeared in 11 contests thus far in 2013, putting together an ERA of 1.23. He has struck out 17 hitters in 22 innings, while being tied for the team lead in wins with a 2-1 record.
