THIS WEEK IN FALCON HOCKEY ... Bowling Green bounces off of their bye week to host the Lake Superior State Lakers (6-11-7, 4-8-6-4) in a rematch that is begging for vengeance to be had. After losing a late lead and an ensuing shootout in consective nights, the Falcons look to regain the edge in the season series and gain ground in the CCHA standings this Friday and Saturday (Jan. 28-29) in a home set at the BGSU Ice Arena. Both games starting at 7:05 p.m. ET.
LAST TIME OUT ... the Falcons were resting in their nests over a bye week. But if you go back to the last time they took to the ice, the ferocious Falcons were in flight taking on the RedHawks of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. On the weekend of January 14/15, the Red and White swept the Brown and Orange in two games and also completed a season sweep of Bowling Green. Friday night's 5-1 defeat to the RedHawks was marred with turnovers and being victimized by speed. After taking a two-goal lead in the first period of Friday's game, Miami never looked back in the victory. Robert Shea scored his first collegiate goal to prevent the shutout. Saturday night's game compacted all the action into the first period with four total goals being scored, but three by the hosting RedHawks. Bowling Green scored first when Andrew Wallace took a pass off the draw from Brett Mohler and scored his second goal of the year, but Miami answered back with three goals before the teams skated into a defensive stalwart and ended the game by that score, 3-1, in favor of Miami.
JOIN US FOR A WILD WEEKEND... Bowling Green hockey is hosting a myriad of promotions this weekend for the LSSU/BGSU series. THE STARTING FIVE - Five Facts On BGSU Hockey

(1) BGSU comes off of their bye week this weekend. Over the last five years (10 games) the Falcons are 0-10-0 in games after taking the week off.
(2) The advantage in the all-time series between the Lakers and the Falcons lies with the Falcons, 71-64-10. When defending home ice the Falcons are 40-23-4 against the Lakers, all-time.
(3) Two weeks ago the Falcons stopped the first five RedHawk power play chances before surrendering a PPG. That power-play goal snapped a streak of 20 straight opponents' power plays killed, dating back to Dec. 29. That sets a new season-high for consecutive power plays killed for BGSU (previous: 16).
(4) In each of their last two weekends of play a BGSU Falcon lit the lamp for the first time in their respective career. Bryce Williamson did so against Ferris State on Jan. 8 and in BGSU's action two weekends ago, Bobby Shea scored his first goal against Miami (Jan. 14).
(5) Three BGSU Falcons have been nominated for the Hobey Baker Award, college hockey's most prestigious honor. David Solway, Jordan Samuels-Thomas and Marc Rodriguez are included in a pool of more than 60 hockey players across the nation to be voted on by the fans. BYE WEEK BOOST?
Any team that comes of their season's bye week is hoping that an extra seven days of rest and preparation will aid their performance against their next opponent. Bowling Green's mentality is also as such but their historical numbers show this may not show favorable results. In their last five series spanning over ten games coming off the bye week (dating back to 2004-05) the Falcons are 0-10-0 against the competition.
THREE FALCONS NOMINATED FOR THE HOBEY BAKER AWARD
College hockey's highest post-season honor began its nomination process earlier this month and three Falcons' names were included in the list to begin the first phase of voting. Falcon point leader Jordan Samuels-Thomas, captain David Solway and the pleasant and quiet surprise Marc Rodriguez have all been included in the first wave of fan voting for the Hobey Baker Award. Fans can vote for any or all their favorite Falcons once every 24 hours until the fan voting session closes on March 6. Go to hobeybakeraward.com to vote. Phase two of the voting process will be opened on March 18 and the winner of the Hobey Baker Award will be announced on April 8 during the Frozen Four Championships.
FRESHMEN GETTING SOME CCH-ATTENTION
With a large sum of its players being first-year players, their contributions to the team's success are both crucial and receiving attention around the league. Two Falcon freshmen have found themselves on the top freshmen scorers list in Camden Wojtala (Trenton, Mich.) and Brett Mohler (Yorba Linda, Calif.). By points, both Wojtala and Mohler maintain a hold on ninth in total scoring (12) by a freshman. Wojtala has a 3-9-12 line while Mohler has a line of 6-6-12. In conference competition, his five goals is tied for sixth most among freshman. During just CCHA games, Wojtala has a 2-6-8 line ranking him tied for eighth in conference scoring among freshmen. Chad Sumsion (Woodstock, Ontario) has also stepped into a tie for tenth in the conference with his four power-play goals.
PREVIOUS CAREER-HIGHS BROKEN
Though many of the incoming freshmen are setting career highs as soon as they take the ice, many returning BGSU Falcons are also surpassing previous career marks, as well.

LOW SHOTS, HIGH PERCENTAGES
This season the Falcons have had a tendency to be held to a very low shot count in a given period but finish the period with a shooting percentage of 25 percent or better (excluding overtime). The situation has occurred nine times and most recently on Saturday, Jan. 8 versus Ferris State when the Falcons were held to three shots but one of the three found the back of the net (33.3 percent). Eight of the ten occurences have been at home and the remaining two were at neutral site, tournament games. Four times, this has happened to the Falcons in the third period. Below is a short list of said occurences:
Oct. 8 vs. Michigan -- 4 shots, 1 goal, 25 percent (1st period)
Oct. 23 vs. UAH -- 6 shots, 3 goals, 50 percent (3rd period)
