Fan Vote: Top 25 Student-Athletes Of The Past 20 Years -- No. 2 Richaun Holmes

Bowling Green, Ohio -- For a week, we asked our fans to vote for their favorite student-athletes of the past 20 years. Throughout the month of September, we will reveal one selection at a time each weekday over a five-week stretch. Today, we highlight your No. 2 choice for the top student-athlete of the past 20 years, basketball player Richaun Holmes!

2. Richaun Holmes (2012 - 2015)

A native of Lockport, Ill., Richaun Holmes was the anchor for the Falcons' defensive success at the Stroh Center.

Holmes had a very successful three-year career for the Falcons, averaging 11.5 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 0.7 assists per game, while shooting 55.4% from the field and 35.3% from long range. His average points and rebound totals increased every year while maintaining his intimidation on the defensive end.

As a senior in 2014-15, Holmes was named Defensive Player of the Year in the MAC. He averaged 14.7 points and 8.0 rebounds en route to earning First Team All-Mac honors. He also shot 58.8% from the field and a career-best 41.9% from long range. Holmes also guided the squad to a 21-12 record and first national postseason tournament win in 40 years.

Holmes was selected with the 37th pick in the second round of the 2015 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. He is currently in his fifth season in the league, as a member of the Sacramento Kings. This year has been a breakout year for Holmes after searching to find a role for the last four years, as he set career-highs in games started (38), points per game (12.3), minutes per game (28.2), field goal percentage (64.8%), free throws (2.1) free throw attempts (2.7), free throw percentage (78.8%), rebounds (8.1), and blocks (1.3).
