September 21, 2020 | Women's Basketball
Bowling Green, Ohio -- For a week, we asked our fans to vote for their favorite student-athletes of the past 20 years. Throughout the month of September, we will reveal one selection at a time each weekday over a five-week stretch. Today, we highlight your No. 10 choice for the top student-athlete of the past 20 years, women's basketball player Lauren Prochaska!
10. Lauren Prochaska (2007 - 2011)
Â
Originally from Plain City, Ohio, Lauren Prochaska's dominance on the court left opposing coaches scratching their heads trying to stop her.
Â
Prochaska made an immediate positive impact on the Falcons, as she was named to the All-MAC Second Team, All-MAC Freshman Team, and selected as the MAC Freshman of the Year in 2007-08. She averaged a team-high 14.8 points per game, while also contributing 5.9 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. She was also named Most Valuable Player at the Cornell Classic.
Â
In 2008-09, Prochaska continued her ascension to the pinnacle of the MAC, securing the 2009 MAC Player of the Year award and being named to the All-MAC First Team. She became the 23rd player in BGSU history to reach 1,000 points, but only the second sophomore to do so. She was named one of 52 regional finalists for the State Farm Coaches' All-America Team. Prochaska led the Falcons in points per game (17.3), rebounds per game (6.5), and led the nation in free throw percentage (93.3%). Additionally, she shot a remarkable 40.3 percent from long range.
Â
The overwhelming success and dominance only persisted for Prochaska in 2009-10, as she was named the MAC Player of the Year and to the All-MAC First Team for the second consecutive year. She was also the 2010 MAC Tournament's MVP, a State Farm Coaches' All-America Team honorable-mention selection, and was named one of 52 regional finalists for the State Farm Coaches' All-America Team for the second-straight year. She once again led the Falcons in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 17.9 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.
Â
Prochaska's senior year saw a third consecutive naming to the All-MAC First Team, while being a State Farm Coaches' All-America Team honorable mention selection for the second year in a row too. Additionally, she was the MAC Tournament MVP for a second consecutive March. She ended her career ranking first in school history in points (2,290), free throws made (626), free throw percentage (90.3%), three-point field goals made (310), games started (135), and consecutive games started (135).
